    Hello!

I am starting my first Saltwater Aquarium!

My set up is going to be:
    - 35 lbs of live rock
    - 30lbs of live sand
    - 200 watt heater
    - Aqua C Remora Hang-On Protein Skimmer
    - 2x Koralia 1s
    - Still thinking of whether to make a sump....

My friend lent me his koralia 4 to start cycling my tank as the rest of my equipment is being shipped!

So far, the first problem (maybe not) I encountered is massive fogging and foaming. I have placed the live rock in and after putting the live sand, it started fogging up REALLY bad. The package said that I did not need to rinse the sand so I didnt. I know that it is normal to fog up but from videos that I have seen, it was never this bad and with foam too. I have not yet waited the 24 hours yet but I am a bit concerned. Please give me some relief!

Oh and if anyone has any advise to give me, it would be greatly appreciated as I am very noob to the saltwater world!

    Here are the pictures.

Welcome to 3Reef. Turn off the pumps until the dust from the sand settles. This cloudiness is fine.

When I first set up mine it was kinda foggy too (not as bad as yours) but within a few days it settled and looked fine. I wouldn't be too concerned.

An easy trick to avoid cloudiness is to place saran wrap on top of the sand and then pour the water on top.

weldcoem to 3reef flazky. thats a great 1st impression, starting off with pics !!! :) you will get all the help you need here. lots of friendlies. lol. did you add the water premixed with salt? or add the salt to the water once in? i realize your sand has kicked up a storm, but if you added salt after, it will not be totally dissolved yet either. but not to worry , all will be fine , and good luck.

Heya, Thanks for all the replies and support!.

I mixed the salt in with the water a day before adding lr and sand so it shouldnt be the salt. I am really thinking about getting a sump but have no idea where to put it as my set up is a open table (no cabinet). Will just a protein skimmer be enough or should I get some sort of filtration like an aquaclear?

or put a large bowl on sand and slowly pour water into the bowl. also heard put live rock in tank, then water, then open plastic bag of sand inside tank and slowly pour sand onto tank bottom while underwater..

Hey guys, I have finally got the water to start clearing up! Waiting didnt seem to help tho because everytime I add a bit of watermovement, it got really really bad again. I changed the water and added more rocks in! I also got myself a used tank with a marinland 200 filter, with lights for a decent price.

Does foam block filters have to be for aquarium use only? Can I get them from anywhere else for a better price perhaps?

I also bought this complete all in one testing kit by Jungle : fish care made easy. This thing comes with a bottle with the strips and pads with the coloured squared indicated the quality of water. This thing does not come with any colour charts!! Does anyone know where I can get the colour charts to get a reading? I am never buying this kit again but I dont want to waste 20 bucks either = (

Advise on further development is greatly appreciated!

This is my soon to be sump!:
