My coral banded shrimp died

mine lived for 5 days How long have your coral banded shrimp lived
should I get another one later on

 

I have had some live for years to be honest.

Tell us about your system, what is in it currently, what your water parameters are and what you dose into the system.

 

I would like to know params also. CBS are very hardy. The hardiest invert I know of. If one died in your tank, it may have been molting and got attacked.....but for it to die because of parameter issues is odd.

 

As well as acclimation technique.

I've had my Coral Banded for over a year w/ no problems and regular molting. He just chills out for a couple of days upside down under a rock after the molt. If it only lived for 5 days then its most probably acclimation stress because I don't think it would of tried to molt so early after being introduced to a new setting. Water Parameters may be quite different from where you got it from possibly. Sorry about your loss, but I would get one again, I think its one of the coolest things in my tank to watch. Good Luck

 

i have had my little fella for close to two years now with plenty of moltings, have never had a problem

 

What do moltings look like, does coral banded shrimp look the same when it molds. Is it like the cleaner shrimp (like a snake sheading it's skin the snake skin is unchanged)

 

Yes, it looks like a second shrimp in the tank. My 4 year old started yelling at me one morning saying we had 2 "jocks" now. I have had mine for 5 months and he molts about once a month. Sorry for your loss.

 

it really is creepy how much the molt looks like the real thing..every morning that i see a molt my first thought is "he's dead..." lol

 

I was shocked when my first cleaner shrimp did that the first one died last week
