Found this puppy for $49, add on a few more bucks for some wiring that I'll have to do myself, and I've got myself a single stage temperature controller for less than $60 new! :victory:

    ETC-111000 - Ranco ETC-111000 - Single Stage ETC Temperature Control w/ Sensor (120/240V Input) - Includes 8' Cord

I am an electrical engineer, but I admit I have very limited knowledge on how common household wiring works. I'll be spending some time educating myself, and will post back with a finished (hopefully working) product.

For those less inclined to DIY, there's the same controller already wired for around $80.

I may be missing some but for 100bux you can get the basic reef keeper lite and it'll control a heater too and 3 lights. Maybe I don't understand what you're doing though.

I've looked into them, they start at around $110, and basically includes a temp probe and timers for lights. Anything additional costs more money for the probes or whatnot. I couldnt find an "aquarium" temp controller for less than $100.

Bottom line is that my light unit has built in timers, and the only thing I need right now is a temperature controller for my heaters. I dont need or want the extra bells and whistles. So I'll gladly save myself the $40-50 and buy a few extra corals, while still having the assurance that if a heater goes bad, my tank doesnt suffer.

Basically, for less than $60, it's no excuse for any reef keeper to not have a dedicated temperature controller on their tank.
