What I've noticed is my Blue Tang will swim at the top of the tank and it looks like she's pushing his back fin out of the water. Then she swims backwards a little and jitters around and then scratches herself on a rock every once in a while. I've done the fresh water dip and I'm treating for ich. Has anyone else seen this habit? Am I doing the right thing?

probably has ick. you should read through the "diseases" threads and 'asap' threads for every other person that has a blue tang for the first time they all get ich. best bet is to do nothing and make sure the fish eats healthy. treating with meds other than copper is a waste of time, but copper kills inverts and is harmful to coral, etc.

My blue tang currently has ich also. Everyone tells me to soak the food in garlic and slightly raise the temp in ur tank. I hear these fish are prone to getting ich. I know how you feel, im dealing with it too. Good luck

From what I've read, the garlic thing is good. I am trying something called "Ich Attack" Not sure if it's helping. Not going to do the Fresh water dip anymore. I don't want to stress my Tang out anymore than I have to. What I've read is that it may not be ich, rather it's another form of bactieria. White spots is what I see it refered to as. Again, the garlic diping seems to be the most common solution. My Tang seems pretty healthy other than the rock scratching and the thing she does by swimming at the top of the tank and kicking her dorsal and tail fin out of the water and sometimes swimming backwards. Anyone see this kind of behaviour????????

please do not do anymore fresh water dips... just feed it a wide variety of diet, especially veggie flakes and mysis shrimp (very high in protein which will boost its immune system).. also can get some ocean nutrition formula 2 flakes which contains garlic, or some sources of flakes that contain garlic
