Your canopy looks amazing!! Good job!! What a lot of work - cleaning the tank and preparing it for water. A+ for patience!

Can't wait to see the rest of this tank put together!

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I am always so impressed by your work, and I like the personal touch you add to your threads.

Following, can not wait to see it with water, fish and corals.

    Under the hood

The PFO Lighting dual 250W MH ballast and reflectors I bought way back in June '10 for my farm actually came out of this set up. There are two VHO supps that share the reflector. When I had it all on the farm build I had taken the VHO's off but since I am putting the whole thing back in this build I needed wiring diagrams for the ballast. When I found them I realized that 1 workhorse 7 will not run 2 110W florescent bulbs. I found another ballast, brand new on flea-bay for $37 shipped. Heres some pics of testing the lights.

I was/am worried about heat from the halides and after doing some research found these mini squirrel-cage fans. 2 of them in a sealed canopy are supposed to drop the temp by nearly 20 degrees. I don't know about that but I do know they move mad air and will flip a spiral wire notebook open and flutter pages at around 10 feet.

The reason they cool so well is that the canopy is basically sealed. The front and sides ride the rim and there is only 1/4" gap along the back. The air being pulled into the canopy through the small gaps along the back and around the doors is compressed which dramatically cools it. That's the theory anyhow. We'll see.

I just put 2 14db 72cfm fans in my hood. They are pc tower fans.

Thanks! I like to tell a story :), get a little long winded sometimes though. haha

Originally I was going to use either 3 80mm or 2 120mm fans. But these two max at 5000 rpm and over 75cfm. If I'd known where to look before buying them I could have built the same set up for a 3rd of the cost I paid on ebay.

Nice. TY. Another place to add to the DIY folder. Ever heard of xoxide.com? They're fans are super cheap. I'm also seriously considering using cold cathodes for the moon lights.

Thanks John. I just sold a couple hyacinth frags and 2 xenia but the guy doesn't get paid until Wednesday. So there's my sand and scape supplies. When he asked if I had them my heart jumped, I had the sand and stuff in a cart and was in checkout all ready. Kinday deflated when I found out I have to wait...again. LOL
