Yes it is very bad. My other systems never had a bloom of this serverity. I think it's so bad because of the foam. If I remember the MSDS listed a high amount of silicates. A local reefer that did a foam/rock scape told me his diatom bloom lasted 5 weeks in his 75.
I'm really concerned about the strange fern type algae though. They are really growing and there's hundreds of individual plants just on my glass.

but where would it come from. I don't have it in the system I seeded from and used dry rock/foam to scape.

If it helps - I would not think it's bryopsis if you don't have any LR. Maybe the sand?
I thought I had it too - but there is a different type of fern like algae that tangs and other herbivores love.(sorry can't think of the name)

I did seed bacteria with sand and rock from my 46 but I don't have any algae issues in that system.

I think you are right on the money, just an huge exaggerated bloom of diatoms, from the (very cool ) back wall and any new equipment, glass you used for a sump, new sand.

I really wish I could get a picture of it but the diatoms on the glass are so thick that would be impossible. Cleaning it isn't an option because the ferny algae is growing on top of the diatoms.
I was going to draw it in paint but apparently my hard-drive is so full there's not enough memory to even open it.
John's sending my CuC and I'm going to do a 50% change preceded by a scrape and siphon. If the feathery stuff persists I'll get all of the CuC out that I can and do a magnesium nuke.

After searching an extensive link John Maloney sent me I was able to determine that it's definitely not byropsis but more likely a normal type of hair algae that a CUC will take care of fairly easily. At least some good news :).

    Day 1

I did a 50% water change and used a baster to blow as much of the loose junk off of the 'scape. The whole thing looks 1000% better with the diatoms and hair algae just off the glass. While I was at the LFS getting a magnetic cleaner I saw they had a big bunch of Green Chromis so I picked up 4 and acclimated them. I wasn't sure about having a school of them but after watching the 4 swim back and forth I'm glad I decided to go ahead. I have 3 others on hold and will pick them up and add them in a week or so.

I love how they press up against the rocks to hide when the lights go out :). I was at the shop this morning before the lights came on frantically trying to find my missing new fish. I looked in the sump, the over flow, the floor right below the only gap in the canopy...finally the VHO's kicked on and there were all 4, pressed as tightly as they could into nooks and crannies on the wall LOL.
Since they made it the night I decided to begin adding some macro's that I've been growing out in my fuge at home since I began this project. Along the way I moved some zoa's that I had on plugs and even a small piece of orange digi.

Even took a big turbo and a couple blue legs down too.

This is a radio active dragons eye/fire and ice plug I was growing out. The eyes were already starting to peek.

The little digi...I didn't even bother light acclimating it because I doubt it will make it any how. If it does, then I don't have to move it lol.
