Herbie has been in action for only a week now.

It is absolutely awesome. No bubbles and silent as advertised.

    Very happy with it.

Thank you... I am... Very pleased with it.

I just have some tweaks to do to clean up the appearance of my return.

So I am assuming you regulate the flow from the fuge to the sump??? With the line going underwater, and the fuge overflowing, I would think noise and bubbles would be minimal. I think it would be best to leave that wide open instead of trying to balance flows and have the fuge back up.

Would have never done herbie unless you did the write up on it....

Now I know why you created that thread...

That ball is cute ;D. Probably gonna keep strictly chaeto... maybe will have some mangroves or some other macro algae in there.

Would like to have a huge chaeto ball in there. Nothing but solid chaeto.

I am regulating the flow from fuge to sump. with my old fuge i had nothing regulating flow to sump and it definitely did make a gurgle.... Enough to notice and wanna correct.

I did create a secondary drain herbie style incase fuge does back up.

Everything is absolutely silent and bubbleless. here and there there is a very small noise from the secondary drain to the sump from the fuge . You can only hear it if you have your ear next to drain. There isnt much give between main drain and secondary drain from the fuge to sump...

I originally was not gonna have the flow regulated to sump from the fuge. But when I redid my plumbing to herbie I had to rethink things.

    Really nice. Awesome set up.

Just always remember.... if you use emergency drain for regulation, then you are taking capacity away from emergency and it is already smaller then the main drain. So just keep it to bare minimum.

Honestly... you realy need to design safety in.... but the chance of the main drain getting 100% cut off is slim to none. You do need an emergency just because... but the need for it to take 100% of flow is near impossible....AS LONG AS YOU HAVE PROTECTION TO KEEP CRITTERS OUT.

I actually passed a snail... but I did not have proper grates...never had a single problem since fixing that.... not even cleaning out algae out of the overflow and dropping it in.

Well with gate valve open all the way it is handling all the flow. so seconday will be for emergency if it backs up for any reason.

I do plan on getting a strainer for the primary drain from fuge to sump.

Well my canopy is finally here and all setup with halides, fans and is on top of the tank.

I had to cust out all holes for fans, vents, and return lines to tank.

I ended up haveing two fans on each side blowing in with at least a hundred 7/8" holes on the ceiling.

Canopy as I received it with no holes or alterations.

The vent holes on top took the most work.

Fans are 4 coralvue 4" "smart" fans ( I ended up taking chrome grills off cause it restricted too much flow)

(picture taken before touch ups :p)

Reflectors fit well.. I do not have much room in the back for supplememntal lighting... I guess I ll have to wait for some led options that will work ;D
