My tank is a 33 gallon. 2 filters on it (cause i don't have a sump or refug.) One is a hang on back style 60gal filter and the other is a 40gal canister filter. I took all of the media out of the filters except some carbon and phosphate remover. Water parameters are all good. I have 2 clowns, 1 firefish and 1 six line wrasse. 5 reef safe hermits, 3 turbo snails and 8 margarita snails. All my corals are still frags but I have 4 frags of zoas (3 different kinds) 2 frags of mushrooms (both different kinds) frag of star polyps, 2 frags of monti caps, 2 frags of monti digi and a frag of clove polyps.
Now, my water will be perfectly clear during the day and when it is time to turn off the lights. When i wake up in the morning and turn on the lights my water is all foggy but then goes clean again a couple hours later? What's going on?

Do you have any anemones? I had an lta and it attached itself to the side of a koralia pump. It made my water cloudy so I did a 30gal. H2o change this morning. Now its starting to clear up. Lesson learned no more anemone for me.

Has this been going on since you moved the tank, or did it just start up? BTW, glad to hear the move went well : )

No, it JUST started roughly 2 weeks ago, but at the same time I am having a diatom problem at the moment which I have no idea where they are coming from because my nitrates and phosphates are both 0!! After I moved the tank I upgraded the lighting which caused a green algea problem which corrented itself/killed itself out and now diatoms are taking over and that is when the murkiness in the morning showed up. water would be clear at night and then murky in the morning but then clears up again later. I'm so confused with everything that is happening to my poor tank!

As for the diatoms, I wouldn't worry about them. All of my CUC loved having free food all over my sand. Now, for this murkey thing, it may be possible that something is coming out at night and stiring the sand? I've really checked a lot of searches and cant really find anything on the subject. If it's a chemistry thing you've got me. Possibly all your fish are having a party at night, then when you wake up all you see is the mess they've left behind. LOL

Do you have your filters accidentally hooked up to the timer the lights are on? If so the crud could be creeping out when the timer shuts off the filter at night. then when the lights kick back on so do the filters and wahla clears up water again.
