So yesterday, out of the blue I found out I am getting transferred. It is going to be a ~5hr trip to the new place and I won't have time to move my DT and sump before hand.

    Here is the current setup.
    30g long DT, 20g sump/fuge
    One 6-line wrasse
    Blasto Wellsi
    Trumpet
    Ricordea
    Acro
    GSP
    Zoas

So here is my question in 2 parts

First what if any way would be the best way to transport the livestock?
I have been somewhat anticipating/hoping for the transfer so I haven't added much to the tank for that reason. All of the coral is still small and on plugs.

Second: Assuming everything makes the trip, would it be okay to setup a 10g with light, heater, and powerhead and put the livestock in there with a 10-15lbs piece of LR until I can get the DT set back up?

I don't know that I will have the room to move all of the LR in water and since I can't move everything ahead of time, I don't want to rush in getting everything set back up. I feel like I might run out of time before I have to report to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Use a a rubbermaid for your LR...use 60% or so of ur tank water, and 40% new clean saltwater...its like doing a big water change...then keep like 10% of your water in the tank...it might be heavier, but u wanna keep that sand alive....the rest of the for transporting stock...keep things aerated with batter power aerators...

You are only going 5 hours away. I don't see where your live stock will have any issues. Do yourself a favor and go to lowes and buy some 5 gallon buckets and get the lids. Use these to move everything. Problem solved. Just buy enough to put all your live rock in a couple of buckets, fish in another with some corals, and the rest of the stuff in how ever many more buckets you need. The buckets only cost about $3, so they wont break you at all, and they are easily managed as well.

And like mentioned above, leave some water in the DT to keep the sand alive, but you wont need to much in there. You really don't want to disturb the sand bed to badly. I would think that you could have the tank set back up in a matter of an hour or so if you get straight to it first, and then you could just put your live stock right back into your DT and not have to worry about setting up a 10 gallon tank at all.

Dont just pour your water back into the tank either, dont make a mess of that sand. Kick up the nasties. Pour into a bowl!

You could one better by setting the live rock back up the way you want it and pour the water over it. A bowl works to though, I just find that you are still going to stir the sand up quite a bit with this is all.

Noted! Pour on the LR is a great idea! Main reason I love this forum!
