    Thanks all! TANK MOVE DELAYED.

I am attempting to get Friday off to move this tank as I have bought a couple extra days from my old land lord.

Last night was a no-go! I spent hours with a caulk-gun at the new place battling ants when I got home. With the rains it is ant-season in Northern California - they love to come into houses at this time of year for some reason. The new place was built in 1949 and has a couple old-school pantries that are vented to the outside. Weird to see. Anyway. Put a chocolate cake near that and one ant led to a billion in about an hour. Total chaos. This took hours to deal with. Then all I could do was clear out some stuff at the old place to get it down to the aquarium. No time to move.

With the extra time I want to think it through a bit. Now I have to go to work and beg my boss for Friday off. I think I will get it. Otherwise it will be a Saturday thing. Thanks again for the well-wishes - I'll keep you posted.

Oh man too bad about the ants!!! Did you know about them before you bought the place? Maybe you can get someone else to pay for extermination/pest management?
Just a thought if someone was supposed to have reviewed and checked out the house beforehand and certified it pest-safe.

I am no expert on this type of issue so maybe others will have more advice that is better . . .

Ants come with the territory around here. I am renting by the way. Anyway, caulking seams goes a long, long way with this. From my college years I can say that it works with roaches too. :p

A good seal on your home is important. ie caulk, weatherstrip.ect. Good luck man! We all need a good challenge every once and a while. My transfer from a 60 to a 125 I thought was a royal P.I.A!

I most definitely do NOT miss student housing. Roaches will always find a way at those places, so I know what you mean!

Hope things turn out when you are finally able to move the tank. How big is the tank? Sorry, I forgot.

I moved it. It was epic.
2 truck beds worth - 2 trips in the Ford Ranger.
Took my 26 hours before I had everything hooked up (with a sleep break in there.)
Didn't lose anything, but, perhaps some Bangaii babies that shot out of my Cardinal when he hit the bucket. Not sure. I haven't seen them since day two. Didn't have much choice but to put them in the display tank where they eventually hid in the rocks.

    Lessoned learned -

    • don't cheap out on fish bags - go to the fish store and bum some. Couple cheapos I used broke. Fortunately they were in a styrofoam box.
    • if moving in the winter - get heat packs - even in Northern California where it isn't that cold - I was surprised how fast the temp dropped
    • anticipate it taking a lot longer than you think to set it up again - it took me over an hour just to level the stand to my satisfaction.

Yippee!! You made it alive! Moving a tank sucks and it is rarely executed without some "regrets". I've moved 4 times in the last 5 years and every single freaking time there's a lesson learned. Pooey!

    Congrats.

Big lessoned learned this last time... don't put scorpionfish in a black bucket. It may be calming for them for the road, but it makes for one hellavah adventure when trying to get them back out.

You never want to say, "Do you see it?" "No, I don't see it.", when looking for venomous fish.
