Heyas! I'm selling a 190g and then breaking it down to move temporarily until the new house is finished. Some of the livestock, rocks etc will be going with me into a 97g. Yes...downsizing..no...not by choice.. :/ Anyway, my question is about the sand.

I want to set up the new tank and get it running for at least a few weeks with sand and some of the rocks from my current system. I was told I can siphon off the top 1" of my current tank to put in the new tank. I was going to just buy new live sand, but this idea may be the better way to go. May I please have any professional opinions on this? I'll be living in temp quarters for about 4-5 months and then will be moving the 97g etc into the new house.

    thank you!

I would get new sand and then add about a cup of so of your current sand to seed it. I might go with just a bare bottom or very little sand while you have it set up for the 4-5 months and then start up the final destination tank with a good sand bed...
