I have moved two ways now,

    1st.
Remove half the water and move the tank with help of friends

    2nd.
Remove all the water and rock and livestock
    Move the tank
Re-introduce the rock and water and livestock.

I normally do a small water change after moving the tank and run an extra skimmer since things like to get mixxed up during moves.

    good luck!

Id just empty the water from the tank in containers/buckets, leaving the substrate and just enough water to keep the substrate covered, put all LR in the containers with water, re-bag fish, crabs etc., move the tank upstairs, fill it back with water, get everything running and acclimate the fish again (mainly for the temp. drop).

    Beat me to it =0)

A 20 gallon move is not too hard. I just broke down a 65 gal and moved it into a 120 gal. The live rock can be wrapped in wet newspaper and put into a bucket. Put the Clowns and Crabs in a bucket and if you have an airstone you can drop that in there. Not a big worry if it's for a short time. I had to wait 8 hours to acclimate the fish. Now is a good time to do a water change and clean any pumps or skimmers. Make sure the temperature in all waters are the same or close. I acclimated my fish just like they were new. Clowns are very hardy and shouldn't be a big concern and crabs are hardy too. Have some extra saltwater in a bucket to rinse off the bottom of live rock. If you have live sand the weight of the sand might make the tank a little heavy so have a friend handy. Good luck and it should be a fairly easy experience.

I moved a 15 gallon tank with everything in it into another room, took out about 2 gallons of water and just picked the thing up.
