thanks everyone for the advise. I guess I might delay this move then.. since I need to find a home for my red devil fish. once that happens. I'll do the move so I can convert the freshwater into saltwater reef. and get the second tank cycling. All I can say it will look great, as both this tanks and stands are identical when they will be placed side to side. ;)

If you end up tearing most or all of it down please take a few days and build a better stand and stick the sliders under it. then slide the tank from one stand to the other and move it to where you want it. Then the naxt time you need to move it your ready to go :)

edit: oops, didnt know you had 2 tanks and matching stands :p

yea both are the same, but I'll have to build another canopy though.. I'll pretty much will just remove all the LR I can and lay corals on sandbed prior to moving. sliders sound like the gameplan once the tank is prepared for the move. wish I had a magic wand. lol

I just moved my 45ga and it was fairly simple. Empty out a bunch of the water as stated and try moving it VERY slowly. If your rocks aren't stable, just slowly move it. It's hard to jolt something so heavy anyways but just use the force and be careful :)

I wish I had caught you before the move. For future use though, if you need to move with rocks still in the tank. Put a layer of tank water soaked paper towels over the entire rock structure. Not only do they keep the rock and corals wet, but the rough surface of LR digs into the paper towels and it helps to hold it in place. If you put a layer over the whole thing it basically forms a net.

yea I wish had 50% of my corals out of water, forgot to lower my LPS (hammer, torch, frogs) they had full extended arms out of water.. (bad) also forgot to lower my sponge it was exposed to air for 1-2 minutes. a few big rocks I took out to lighten load didnt go back the same way. and some of my fishes were out of water slightly.. it was stressful.. but luckly I saved all the existing water and got the water back into tank within 10-15 minutes. used my mag 3 to pump water back (that helped alot) it was killer!

Your sponge will most likely die, they can't be exposed to air as it gets into their pores and channels and it will slowly starve to death, I guess you learn from mistakes. At least it's over. For anybody else looking to do this, it would be best to take everything out and put into buckets or plastic containers and if in there for long, kept with heaters. I've thought of moving my 55, but then realized the hassle isn't worth it, at least IMO.
