That is a lot of hard, stressful work! Is there anyway you can maybe setup that 55 you just scored someplace else temporarily for moving day? At least a place to keep all of your fish until you move everything over. Then you can use the 55 gallons to make up the difference between the 180 and 125 :)

I know just moving corals and livestock from two tanks that are running is stressful enough, never mind taking one completely down and then setting another up from scratch!

Thanks also to yhou Marshall for your input. I've heard that about the 55- tempered, not quite sure why though- some kind of engineering reason I'm sure.
I may have to rethink using this tank in the sump system at all.

I realize the 'work' thing. I've read many a post about how it took people up to 6 times longer than they thought to do this.

I've mainly got to have a good, thought out plan, then execute it.

If you want to tie it in to a 40, then yes, that would make it difficult. There are only two ways to make multiple sumps work, either plumbed together or have one overflow into an other. Confirm it is in fact tempered before you rule it out though.

Indeed, plus a friend or two to help!

And for even more useless info, the math is just multiply the length x width x height (if you used inches, convert to CF by diving that number by 1728; if you used feet do nothing!), then multiple by 7.48 to get gallons.

    Very simple formula.In inches, LxHxW/231.

12x21x48 / 231 = 52.36. You really want to use the inside dimensions not outside so it is probably closer to a 50 gallon tank.

    Thanks,
People keep in mind that chart is only for those brand tanks!
The column about bottom tempered is off for my tanks.
My current 125 is bottom tempered, as is my new 180.

But the sizes seem to be very accurate.

** Picked up a drilled 40B - actually from the same guy I got the 180 from.

It's drilled already, 2 holes in the bottom.

I plan on using this in my system, as a Frag tank, and more non-DT water volume as well.
I now plan to keep using my current 50g rubbermaid roughneck sump as is as well.
I'l probably use the 55 for water storage and a mixing container/holding tank.

You know about plans, they can change on a moments notice.

You can barely make out the bottom holes in the blurry pic, sorry.

That's the 40b, on top of the 55, with the 180 behind and below- in my shed.
