what motor or door configuration are you going with? If you want a 2 door, the cts is the choice. Also, the MKZ is FWd with AWD optional, and the CTS ids RWD with AWD optional.

The CTS, despite being a GM, is a great car. The MKZ is a great car too, but each has their nuances.

ok, so you want a 4 door? and a v6? if you want a v8, you will need to go with the cts. and what about AWD?

I am not a GM man by heart, but the CTS is one of the few I would buy. the 3.6 v6 in the cts is a very good motor.

So, the mkz will clearly be the better bargain, especially with ford's #1 incentives program now. the mkz starts at 35 (CTS too) but the mkz's base and only motor is a 3.5l 263 hp motor that I can say for certain is a great motor. If you want AWD, the mkz is only a little more. The cts's base motor is a 3.0 v6, and while not a bad one, in order to get the 3.6 direct injection motor, you need to buy an AWD one. You would be looking at nearly 50k for one of those.

So the real question is fwd, awd or if a daily river in a climate where it can or will snow versus, say LA where buying an AWD is just not needed. All the traction control in the world does not help that much in a rwd car driven int he snow.

Those are the big questions now. reliability wise, both cars are good.

My personal choice would be the CTS mostly for the suspension tuning.

I'm sure when you test drive them one will stand out to you.

well im going back and forth about the awd or not..because i will be living in florida for the next 22 months and then im moving back to pittsburgh. and 7 out of those 22 months i wont be even driving the car. Awd would be huge benefit in pittsburgh, but a gas guzzler in florida. i would be making a half hour each way commit starting this summer. im leaning towards a v6 but if i can get a v8 for the right price...soo many choices

Well, a fwd is a great compromise. They can go through quite a bit, and the rwd cts would be a real pain in the few times you drove in the snow. If you can get away with no AWD, the 2wd gas mileage will pay off with a lower sticker price, less maintenance, and better mpg's.

Plus, similarly equipped, the mkz is much cheaper, not even figuring in all the discounts.

drive them both, do what your brain tells you to do:) now if you won't drive it for 7 months at a time, it will be like a new car every 7 months, LOL

I don't think you could get a CTS V for a deal, those are in pretty high demand, and command a premium. So the V6 would really be the only choice.
