So after the holidays i want to start saving up for a new powerhead so i can have more flow.

I currently have 2 mj1200s and i want to keep mainly lps and sps so i know i don't have enough flow. My tank is a 46 bowfront and 3 feet long.

I've been wanting the mp20 because they seem pretty awesome but have a pretty awesome price to them as well.

I haven't done to much research on the maxijett mods but heard they are powerful, and aren't as expensive as the vortech.

    Which one should i get?

Not as expensive as the Vortech?! That's an understatement. Maxi mods are so cheap that I would get the mod and try it out for awhile. If your tank does well with it you saved a huge bundle.

Vortechs are amazing though and if you can afford it you will not regret it.

    Vortech, hands down.

Why dangle all sorts of junk inside your tank, when you can put one powerhead, with no cord in your tank, and do the job just as well if not better - plus you will be able to very easily adjust the flow. No heat transfer either. Sometimes things are more expensive for a reason :)

Maybe consider one of these to hook your maxis up to:

Wave Makers: Maxi-Jet Natural Wavemaker System for Reef Aquariums

If you do try it be sure you get the right mod though. One will work with a wave timer and the other will shatter the prop into pieces. I think it might be packleader who knows which one, but I could be wrong.

i won't have the money for a while, so just trying to decide if it is really worth waiting a while to save up for the vortech or go with the cheaper mj mod and still have a lot of flow from that

    vortechs do seem pretty awesome

that thing seems pretty awesome as well. i worry about the usage of 3 powerheads. My GFCI unit has started to flip out because of all of the plugs i use for both fish tanks, i don't think it would allow me to add another powerhead.

Or if just the two mj would work on it that would still be a possibility

Save up for the vortech, and after you get it, sell the MJ1200's and never worry about not having enough flow again.

what power heads work well with a red sea wave timer besides a straight maxi jet 1200
