could place a sponge or filter fabric in between baffles in bubble trap but some say thats a nitrate factory but should be ok if you clean often

Turn the lights off on the display tank and darken the room then take a flashlight, place it on the side or back so it shines through the water and look at the result. If it looks like diamonds, sparkles, glitter or shines brightly it is microbubbles, if not its sand and debris. The difference is easy to see.

Describe you system or attach photos so we can see it. What size is the display, sump, and plumbing? How is it plumbed, what materials are used and what does it have for fittings, valves and restrictions? What is the flow rate of the return pump, does it have any piping or valves on eithe rthe suction or return side and does it have a sponge or foam filter on the suction side? Do you have baffles in the sump and how are they arranged? Do you have a skimmer, if so what is it, where is it and how does it discharge? How is the return plumbing situated as far as belwo the surface of the water, nozzles or outlets and direction of flow on the exits? What do you have for powerheads and where are they placed and at what depth? Do you see any evidence of vortexing or coning?

at nite time i used the flashlight and saw bubbles and debris. my DT is 55g, sump is 10g, plumbing is mostly 3/4" pvc and from the return is braided vynal tubing. here are pics of the system.

    1st my overflow/fliter

[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] if u wanta call these bulkheads they are just silaconed in place. so its all gravity feed to the sump.

[IMG] for my flow control to sump. left is for the fuge and thr rite to the sump.

here are pics of the sump and fuge with return.

i have a seaclone 100 it discharges towards the baffle. [IMG]

my pwrheads are a maxi 600 a korilla(sp) rated for a 6' tank not a 4'. the kor is pointed towards the return and upwards like the maxi cause i run an open top. pics of pwrheads.

I see part of the problem IMO is the drain going into your sump. I believe it should be submerged into the sump. Or you could use a filter sock there also but it has to be under water. I had that problem with my present setup. Once i placed the drains under water the bubbles went away.

Thats because you have less gph going through the fuge than the sump.
