Ok, so I have noticed micro bubbles in my 10gal reef. The thing is that I don't have a skimmer, sump or fuge. I do have a big canister filter but I have never had micro bubble problems. I haven't touched the canister for about a week (time for a cleaning though). I recently upgraded by lighting from a 2x18w T5 fixture to a 4x24w T5 fixture. About a day after upgrading that is when I noticed all these micro bubbles that seem to be coming from no where??? Can lots of light cause anything like this?

Do you need to add a little bit of water?? That normally solves the bubble issue. Just a thought if you havent tried it yet!

I always keep the tank topped off. Everyday I add the amount of water that had been evaporated. These bubbles started happening right after I got the new fixture.

Is it possible that the bubbles were already there, but as a result of the increased lighting, you can now see them? That's a possibility. If nothing else has changed, this would be my guess.

Hmmm.... Yea. That is possible I guess. They aren't doing any damage or anything. I'm just wondering where they are coming from lol. They could have already been there I guess.

Check the seal because air could be coming inside of the canister filter or the other thing to check its to were if something is in the impeller.

Are the bubbles in the water or on the surface of rocks/glass?
If on surfaces of rocks/glass, could be algae. It often releases bubbles before making an appearance.

really?? OH NO!!! I do NOT like the sound of that at all!!!!!!! Because the bubbles are kind of clinging to surfaces but they are also floating around in the water. They go away when the lights shut off. In the morning, the lights come on and then the bubbles start to come back about 3 hours after the lights have been on. I haven't seen any algae so far. I buy water for my tank too from a big RO/DI unit. I fill my 5gal juggs. I was actually worried about algae possibly making an appearece because of the increased lighting... but I thought my RO/DI water would help prevent a big algae outbreak. If there is indeed an algea outbreak on the rise, how long should I expect to see it? How much time needs to go by without seeing any algae until I am safe?
I just did a big 35% water change cause I'm all freaked out!! lol.

Sounds like the start of cyano or dinoflagellates since it goes away when the lights are out.
