I have recently been under a cloud of GHA and would like to know what effect the light has on this deal. I got GHA out the A$$ and would like to know the photo time recommended for a 180 G with 3 X 250 MH and 4 X 54W T5's???? I have been running 11Hours T5 and 9 Hours MH. Should I change the cycle????

GHA also relies on nutrients in order to thrive. What are you parameters? What about bulb age, older bulbs are excellent for growing nuisance algae. If you don't have corals, I would cut everything back to 7 hours or so. Some might say even less. How much do you feed a day? Excess food can just rot inside your tank producing the nutrients the algae will thrive off of.

    NTom,
I feedevery other day Live Brine Shrimp... so i doubt that is the culpret. I will cut down on Photo Time to see if this helps. I am also going to do a rock cleaning this weekend to clean things off a bit to see if the growth continues. I have been dealing with this issue for some time now.

You could get a sea hair. They mow that stuff down like crazy. But you would still have to find the reason why it is taking over.
