hello! we are newbies with the saltwater aquarium world but we've done all our research!!

we bought an established 55 gallon tank from a craigslister. it came with a yellow striped maroon clownfish, a yellow head sleeper goby, and a six-line wrasse.

my question: the clownfish just wants to hang out in the right hand corner of the tank and rarely ventures farther than a 10 inch radius. Is this normal??? Is he still in shock from the tank move?

I've read the maroon clownfish is one of the more aggressive clownfish and will often bully smaller tank mates. He does seem to get a bit annoyed with the wrasse, but seems to be fine with the goby (who is nearly the same size as him).

Thanks so much! Will post pics if I can figure out how![IMG]

Welcome to 3reef!!Yes its completely normal. Don't forget in the wild they will have an anemone as its host and rarely do they venture very far from it. IME I had one of these for over 20 years and mine really wasn't a bully. He was in with a myriad of other fishes over the years. As long as your tank is big enough they can be quite good citizens.(Maybe mine was the exception and not the rule).;) Good luck with it they are great fish!!!8)

I'm glad you found the answer on your own, but don't be afraid to ask lol. ;D Clowns are very funny fish to watch. Mine like to swim vertical along the back wall or almost upside down along the top of the tank lol.

Welcome to 3reef and enjoy your tank.

Thank you so much for the responses!!!

Well....guess what??? I went home at lunch and C-Dawg (that's our name for clownfish :) ) well...he was out of the corner swimming all over the tank!!! The little bugger. Maybe he just needed some time. But, the wrasse went into his corner and he shot back over there and chased him out again. hahaha...silly fish! :)
