I actually have never been shocked by any glass heater but I was shocked by every stealth heater I've owned(3). IMO they definitely shouldn't be submerged the seals aren't good.

Just a risk IMO. Don't want you to get screwed, that is all.

If they were statistically that bad I don't understand why there wouldn't be a recall or lawsuits over this, doesn't make much sense?

Not enough customers in the hobby for that sort of thing. It doesn't seem fair, but it is how it is. I have had two friends recently have those break. One split open, the other just got stuck in the "heat" position and boiled his tank.

My Stealth broke fairly quickly. About 4 weeks of usage, spread out over about 6 months, as it was in my container for makeup water. It never shocked me, but just stopped working one day.

My Stealth Pros, on the other hand, do really well. Both are submerged.

same boat here. Stealth heater stays in the ON position, regardless of what I set the temperature to be. Temp exceeds 86.

    Besides you can't beat this:

    * In-line capable: with unique flow-through design allowing even circulation of heat
    * Fully submersible for standalone use
    * LED alert light blinks at a temperature fluctuation of plus or minus 5 degrees, so you can take the appropriate measures to ensure the safety of your fishes and organisms
    * Easy-to-set temperature dial ranges from 69 to 93 degrees Fahrenheit for any aquarium application
    * Unbreakable design is safe to the touch: even when running.
    * Good for freshwater or saltwater aquariums up to 90 gallons.

i don't even use heaters anymore. The temperature in Chicago usually keeps my tank between 78-80

Well, some do, it is wise to keep one in your system. Things change in day to day life. Winter is around the corner as well.

Some say split the heater wattage in half so it really has to work to be able to boil your tank. EG takes twice as long to heat to much...

hm, i highly disagree iwth the statement that there are not enough people in the hobby for there not to be legal matters. I think this heater brand definately has a bad rep however if it truly was HORRIBLE and every heater broke there WOULD be lawsuits/reimbursements/recalls. I have a Stealth Pro, seems to be working great so far
so hopefully i should be alright. I am not going to upgrade for a while, maybe if i see a deal on craigslist but i regardless would have rather bought this heater than a little aqueon that would have shattered everywhere.
