Scientists in Australia have been studying this for some time now. They are hoping they can make an anti-toxin for blue ring bites. Peacock mantis are the only known animal that can handle the venom.

EDIT: BTW, Roy Caldwell who took that video is one of the foremost experts on stomatopods and cephalopods.

    LOL....don't hate

Roy is scientist who can live underwater for weeks at a time in the Aquarius (I would go insane...way smaller than a submarine) and is willing to design experiments and perform observations. He's also willing to deal with hobbyists. OK, public speaking is not his thing. However, that's not exactly different for many scientists. The knowledge of hobbyist mantis keepers came from him. (Can you tell I have a lot of respect for him?) LOL

It sounds to me that you didn't read the posts following the video. Yes, at first I thought it was just a random guy with a mantis seeing what happens if he puts the most venomous octos on the planet in with his mantis, but it's not. There's actually a point to it, and if they find something through this study, there's potential for tons of lives to be saved. As inwall and others have said, the blue ringed octo has no antivenom or "cure" to it's venom. If it gets you, you're dead within minutes no matter what. This study could solve that problem.

Mantis will normally attempt to take the claws off of larger crabs followed by removing the legs to prevent the crab from fighting back or escaping. They're freakishly smart.
