hi everyone i had a big nitrate problem :( like the test would turn the highest level half way through shaking :( so the levels were probably like 225 maybe higher. i read many threads about fixing it so i cut feeding to everyother day instead of twice a day and started doing as many water changes as i could. since i have a 10gpd ro unit it was slow i did about 5 gallon changes which is about 10% once a day but probably more like everyother day on avg. was testing weekly and had no sign of it dropping. then i did a 25% this past weekend and i tested water tonight and YES!!! the test showed 20. i didnt believe it so i did it again and sure enough same result i was so excited lol. so i decided to test for phosphate since i was at it. it was between 5 and 10 bout 3 weeks ago now its at .5 :) o ya when i realized that i had a problem i really only had some algea on the back wall which my lawnmower blenny filled up on constantly. then as i started doing the wc the gha went nuts since it has subsided. but last week film algea started showing up :( but it has drastically slowed as well. kinda funny but my clowns have been hosting the gha on sandbed lol. since this started i added more live rock and a new skimmer so hopefully it helped and will keep it away :)
o ya i saw a post similiar to this earlier today and i want to say thanks to them because thats why i tested water randomly today lol
do you think that the rest of the algea will dissapate with some time?
    thanks

Congrats, keep up the cleaning regimen and you will keep the algae under control. You will probably have sporadic out breaks because of your high phosphate level until it leaches out of the rock. Could be a year or more.

People always underestimate the importance of strong flow in keeping nitrates down. Don't let detritus settle! I have propped up much of my rock up on pvc pipe and have a Koralia blasting water under the rock in addition to other flow. Make sure your LR is stable!
