ok ill tell them about the feedings, and they only run like media thru it, ie carbon, phosban, um nitrate sponge and one other thing i believe. so there is none of the orignal media they gave me. would my skimmer be enough filtration w/o any other filter? um yes they do water changes once a week about 5-7 gallons. and whats a filter sock? u mean just a sock to sit in my skimmer?

Excess nutrients like phosphate, nitrates etc. A dirty canister filter often traps nutrients What is your photo period ie. how many hrs/day do you have your lights on? A good CUC will probably help control the algae, too???

There are some commercial dry foods also contain excess nutrients and other undesirable things like nitrates, phosphates etc so I strain/rinse my fresh/frozen foods before feeding my tank. You can add a phosphate remover and increasing flow in your tan. Also using RO/DI water and a high quality salt with minimal NO3, phosphates etc like Tropic Marin will really help too.
