I have a gate valve (half closed) on my Mag 9.5 and was wondering will the back pressure cause any damage to the pump? I have been trying to see in the instructions (and using google) if there was a way to turn down the pump without using the gate valve and to no avail I have not seen/read anything.

    Thanks

Sounds like you need to trade somebody for the Mag 7

Agree prob downsize the pump. Although a little back pressure on a magdrive pump isn't bad at all from what I've read.
Why do you have it turned half way down?

Idk if it damages the pump, but I've restricted my mag too much before and it makes it super loud. I'm not sure of your setup, but if this is a return pump, put a tee and valve in the return line and run it back to the sump. That way some of the water goes to the DT and some just dumps back to the sump, and the pump runs wide open.

I have to turn it half way down because the pump will drain my sump faster than the intake can place the water in the sump

I thought I had read as long as you have the valve on the exit of the pump a Mag Drive is fine. You do not want to put it on the pump where the water enters.

I would do this until you can down size your pump.
