I've had my BRS reactor powered by an Maxijet 1200 for a few days now and dang this thing is loud! Sounds like a few marbles are rattling around inside. I'm running GFO and have to throttle it back a bit with the reactor's ball valve so the GFO doesn't grind. My tank is in the living room so I need to find a solution to this. My return pump is 4x the size and completely silent!

The MJ1200 is the recommended powerhead for use with the BRS reactor. I emailed them last week and never got a reply.

    Thanks y'all!

you have a broken impeller- you can get a new one but it is usually cheaper to just buy a new pump. I have like 4 maxi 1200's laying around I will give ya one if ya pay the shipping.

If it is brand new you should be under warranty

I don't think it's broken.. it's just throttled back a bit. If I open the ball valve it gets quiet. I just can't run it 100% when using the GFO in the reactor. I'm just surprised BRS would recommend the mj1200 if it has to be throttled back so dang far

Those Pumps dont like to be throttled back too much.
The magnet that is attached to the shaft/fan will get hot if there is not enough water flowing. What you are hearing is the sounds of the magnet base of the impeller banging around the inner wall. When you have lots of water flowing, it has a harder time making contact with the inner wall.

There are two rubber boots on each end of the shaft. Make sure that both are properly attached and dont slip out of the hole that was created for them to fit into when fully assembled. The shaft is supposed to keep the magnet from touching the inner wall but if those boots let go a bit then your impeller is bouncing all over.

If you have to run with a reduction of flow then I would suggest getting a smaller pump, maybe a MAXIJET 800 or a 600 as opposed to a flow restrictor

Mine isn't on a mount. It's not even touching anything. The 1/2" line is keeping it suspended in the water.

This sucks.. I finally got my tank nearly silent. I have to dial back the pump so the GFO doesn't grind (as per BRS instructions) but the pump that BRS suggests one get can't handle being throttled back. grrrr
