So Everyone, Just looking for some input. I wanted to cut down on the pumps in the tank. (Running on 4, hydor evo 1400s.) I have been looking at some vortechs for a while and my brain seems scrambled. :S.

The tank is 120g, 4'x2'x2' Glass tank. Looks to be about 3/4" glass. I had so many in the tank when I was caring for SPS. Which now I really just want to do Softies and LPS. Since new to this. I wanted some input. I was thinking 2 mp10w es, or 1 mp40w es, Or if you have other ideas. Feel free to throw out your two cents :)

    Thank you in advance!

I think regardless of you two choices you would still want a couple of the other pumps. I would go with one mp40 and take out two of the 1400 and see how that is...if its more than enough then you could take another of the 1400's out.

    I'd go with 2 MP40's or one MP60.

One MP40 is enough for my 75 but I'd still like a little more so am looking to add an MP10 to the back wall.

Trying to position those other 4 pumps has been a pain, Water tornados no matter where I point them. :s Just kinda sucks seeing the wrasses get spun around when they swim near it and arent paying attention. It didnt seem to bother before but with the corals and stuff in the tank it was deflecting flow differently.

How thick is the glass? If it's a 120 gallon the glass might be too thick for an MP10. I think the MP10's are only good for glass about 10mm thick or about .4"

I would suggest getting two MP40's one on each side of the tank before one MP60 though. One MP40 and your strongest EVO pump may work also.

I think 1 mp40 would be fine for just softies and lps. That would give you around a 25x turnover rate not counting your returns. I ran a single mp40 on my 125 for two years and never really noticed any dead spots.

My suggestion would be 2 Mp40's. Less in the tank, crazy movement, no need for wavemaker, minimal clean up, and well...they are the best. They are expensive but the quality is worth it IMO. Another option is 1 MP40 and 1 MP10. Cheaper, same effect.

The best use of money would be the first option in case you want to go SPS or something that requires more movement. In additon you would have to run the MP10 harder than the MP40.

I went with one MP40 on my 75g doing softies and LPS. Reason I dont have another is cause of the start up cost for the hobby. I am looking to add an MP10 cause this is not my last tank and I could always use the MP10 on a smaller tank in the future if it is not enough.
