i need help understanding this encrusting algae. trying to find sources on the web but can't seem to figure out whether it's reef safe or not or whether it will effect my coral.

it does spread fairly quickly and is brown in color. tried scraping it but couldn't get too much off. probably helped it spread actually.

should i be worried and what could get rid of it if i need to?

i can get a pic if i need to

I would keep and eye on it almost to the point of separating the algae/rock to a corner of the tank by itself. It will help you out if it spreads quickly!

fortuantely it is at the corner where no other rocks are touching. but the rock its on is a ricordia yuma rock with about 7/8 polyps and growing.

HOW DO I GET RID OF IT. will an urchin eat it?

The type of algae that you have, I believe is the same kind as I have. It grows and looks nice so I am leaving mine. I have an urchin and he doesn't eat it though. If it doesn't bother anything I would just leave it!
