I feel like this is a total newbie question, but I really don't know!

So my tank is having algae issues. Yay! I've done everything I can do and it won't budge. I don't have space to set up a fuge...well I'm not sure, but I don't think I do. Could I get some live rock and put it in my sump to help with filtration? There is no lighting over the sump, is that a problem?

Also, I guess I will just ask this since I'm making a thread. If I wanted to build a fuge, external to the sump, how would I do that? I have a little side table to the side of my tank that the fuge could sit on (would be on the side of the sump with the return pump), or I have a little space underneath the tank next to the sump (would be on the side of the sump with the skimmer). Would either spot work, and how would I plumb it in and all that jazz?

    Thanks!!

This doesn't really answer your question, but opens up another possibility for you. My fuge light went out on me last week. So I threw the clump of cheato into my overflow. Maybe you can put some in your overflow in a spot that won't allow it to clog anything.

I have another 20lbs of rubble in my sump. I think it adds a lot of filtration.

So the rubble would be ok without a light? I should know this, but I don't. lol

Also, I have thought about putting some macro in the overflow, but I wasn't sure if it would work,. I would get enough light for sure. I'll look into that.

    Thanks!!

LR doesn't need light. The macro algae would. With your 8 bulb tek light you should have plenty of light to grow some cheato.

Petco is having their $1 a gallon sale right now. You could buy a 30 gallon tank for $30 and have a good sized sump/fuge. 30"Lx12"Wx16"H
