I was reading in the live rock forum that you can make your own rock then someone brought up that in someones book they talk about using a cement block and put dry and live rock around it. Can you do this? As always thanks in advance.

I would be concerned about what may leech out of the cinder block cement.

Well yes to both of you. I was thinking of real cement blocks and heard about what Corailline posted. Thanks both of you.

I don't think that real cement blocks have the porosity that makes the live rock "live". Live rock is incredibly porous, and this is where much of the filtering benefit lies.

But it might work out for structural. Old weathered concrete or cycle it in freshwater for 5 weeks, followed by a few weeks in saltwater should leech most of the bad stuff out.
