Its been 10 months since we started this tank, the sump addition was recent.

Guess I left out the part about taking out all the previous water and reusing it after everything was done. We basically kept the rocks and livestock in huge rubbermaid containers while the "work" was being done on the tank. Then tossed it all back in, including the old media bag (which is now in the sump)... and all our old black sand is also in the fuge. So it should all pretty much be the same environment (hopefully). :)

The nem has been looking ok, not a whole lot of moving around, but we did have a scare on the first day ... guess he was just pooping.

P.S. Wife is looking to aquascape it properly at some point.

That does make a big difference. I did something similar last year with very few issues. You'll probably be ok.

And again nice work!! I hate the size and placement of the overflow on my tank.

Thanks! but what dont you like about your setup? Aqueon pre-drilled, correct? What would you change about it? Looks awesome to me!

I don't like the real estate the overflow takes up. It's a big % in a 72, plus the water movement would be better without it. I'm thinking about completely emptying the tank to remove the silicone fastened overflow, patch the bottom of the tank where the holes are, and drill a system like yours.

I would stay away from check valves they are notoriously bad. I would just get some more loc line and make the return go all the way up to the surface. This way you wont have any problems. I did the same thing with mine and it worked out great.

Aha! It totally makes sense now! But yeah, I am really glad what I did to our tank. Even tho I shouldve placed the return hole closer to the top, just like bama mentioned, I love the overflow system.

OH!! check valve is a no no??? The check valves and other fittings have been sitting in the Marinedepot.com cart for a while. Fortunately, I have more loc line extensions, I can adjust the height tonight!

Yes, Im glad I caught you in time lol. Check valves are very unpopular in the hobby. Be sure to post some pics when you update! Also have you ever thought of putting a black background on your tank? I did it with mine and it makes the overflow basically disappear and makes the rest of the tank look amazing. Just a thought.

Here is my old tank with the same glass holes kit.

Ok... so the potential sump flooding hazard has been fixed (for now). lol

I added an extension loc line and pointed it upwards.

Phew. Glad that's taken care of.

And a bonus pic of our yellow clown goby. He likes to sit on the glass vertically. So odd, since there are no glass corners in the ocean.

I will post ore pics after I paint the back (which I should have done before). UGH
