    Hi,

What would be the BEST and CHEAPEST lighting to get ( i was thinking VHO?). I am trying to build a new saltwater reef tank. I am adding about 80LBS of hawian rock and seeding it with 20 LBS of fiji live rock and bacteria. What would be the cheapest and best lighting to get for this? Can i save some money and build my one from parts at Home depot? Also should I hang it or have a glass cover or reg cover?

    thanks for any help

Cheapest and Best are almost diametric opposites when you talk about lighting! It depends what critters you plan on keeping.

Acro Corals, Anemones, or Clams - then metal halide is your best bet.

If not, you could do VHO, T-5, PC....or a combination.

Whether to hang or not and to cover or not, is personal preference.

If you got skill ;) , sure you could build your own. I am not sure if you can get all the ballasts and such at home depot, but an electrical supplier should have the stuff :D
