light on during the cycling

    well i had asked this be for in my past post but never got a answer.
    now that im a month into it can someone tell me what the diff is lights on or off? what does it change?

    The light is required by the algae, leave it off to minimize the inevitable outbreaks.

    It takes away one more thing that algae use to grow. I started my lights at on for 1 hour a day and added 15 minutes each day until I reached the cycle I wanted to use. By the time the green algae had enough light to grow each day I was far along enough in the cycle to safely add my CUC and they had an easy job of cleaning it up.

    ya everything in mine is brown, i cleaned it and it all brown again the next day even

    Thats diatoms and is a natural part of the cycle. They'll die off when the silicates are used up. Then the green bloom will come. Another natural part.
    One of the hardest lessons learned in this hobby is Patience. If you try to force issues and move to fast you will ultimately fail.
