So I walked into one of two local fish stores that I like, and they had a few Biorb's out for their christmas sale. They had 2 fairly large clowns in the 8 gallon biorb. Is this a sign that I shouldn't go back to this store?

Well, to me, it just means that they are trying to sell those products. They put the clowns in there to make people say, hey, I want that. I wouldn't go back on principle, but IMO, it doesn't mean they don't know anything, although it could.

Well the Biorb is most likely not going to be those 2 clowns home forever. Chances are they just put them in the tank to make a sale, and they're going to go back into a properly sized display tank once the promotions over.

I don't particularly agree with pushing an animals health for promotional purposes. Maybe they know they dont belong there and either think its harmless or they dont care, or they dont know that its not ok. Either way, hopefully they are put back into proper housing soon.

On the plus side, It was really smart of you to question this. K+to you!

the thing thats sad is people are going to see the small "easy to take care of" 8g with 2 clown fish and buy that for there children... then have problems with the tank and then you have a repeat customer... bait and hook set...

My lfs that has very knowledgable employees once bisplayed a pico with a baby maroon in it, I'm sure they wouldn't advise anyone to try try this at home.

i'm with studman. i think alot of lfs nowadays are doing this. after one year and about 5 different tank setups, i have realized that my lfs has made me a chump repeat customer. personal experience: they said i could have a niger trigger, porcupine puffer, volitan lionfish, snowflake eel, lunar wrasse, and hawkfish in a 55 gallon. i realized that they lied after they all outgrew the tank in a few short months. i sold them back to the lfs for less than 2 bucks each; they were all over 40 dollars. nowadays, i believe that in this rough economy, fish stores have realized that they need to "bait and hook" as studman puts it, so they do not go out of business. they figure they can rip some people off now, if it means it is better for all people and the business in the long run.
