I would like to add a LED stunner strip to my 55 gallon reef tank. I am going for that shimmer look. Any ideas where to find a fairly low cost for these strips? How many would be recommended for my tank? Is there a spectrum I need in order to get that shimmer look? Any information would greatly be appreciated.

If your just after shimmer/color supplementation, I generally recommend the Ecoxotic stunner strips. If your willing to do a DIY, the door opens up a lot for you.

Shimmer is provided via a point light source, not spectrum.

Bingo. 2-3 of them should be fine if you're using it just for shimmer. 6 if you want supplemental lighting.

I'd consider a diy project. I'd have to weigh the costs of each. I'll do a search on the ecoxotic strips. I really don't have the slightest clue how to build my own.

Well I want to try to build this myself. Could anyone provide a thread or a link of some kind to help me through this build?
I will document every step of the setup with lots of pictures.

What is your primary lighting? If these are just suplemental lighting, to get shimmer, I'd think they would get washed out prety easily. Arn't they just .5w leds? I'd think the panoramas would have more punch?

My primary lighting is T5. I like the shimmer LEDs and mh make. I am trying to duplicate that the cheapest and easiest way possible.

Still continuing to research this topic. I have read a diy strip, I'm not that talented. I am still looking for a strip. My current setup is 4 bulb t5 48" nova extreme fixture. I think I will add ecoxotic strips. I was thinking of adding (2) 24x8000 k strips attached to the front of my t5 fixture and (2) 24x453nm blue strips attached to the back. Any comments on this setup?
