    Heya, a friend mentioned my current might be too strong and it got me thinking. Do I have these jets in the best spot? The LFS recommended two Koralia 3s facing each other in the tank so I purchased them back in my big spending spree a while back. Attached is a photo, what are your recommendations when it comes to jets and what would you suggest for my 46 gallon tank in using these?

    Thank you!

    umm... facing each other would just create strong turbolance that fish would not watn to be swimming in when you start keeping fish.. you should place one in the back left mid to bottom corner to keep the detritus from getting tracked in your rock work.. then you place the other one top front right corner going across to top left corner.. and you should be fine for a while.. if it's not enough flow, you might want to get a koralia 2 and have it go from top left to top right as well or back left to back right

    Hello, just posted this for someone else but you may bennefit from it;
    what I use as a Gage is the reef itself. If you look at a live reef the current and movement is quite intense really. In my 55 gal. I have a Koralia 3 and 4 plus the two returns. I also have added a Nano Koralia in one dead spot. You want (from experience) the most flow/cross current your coral can handle and thrive in. This takes experimentation. I like having the back return tube facing down and toward the middle of the back glass to get flow directly behind the rock work. The front return tube is just under the surface and facing the middle (depth wise) to shoot water across the tank for good surface agitation. The two large Koralia are located toward the back of the tank and about 3" under the surface and facing the the front middle of the glass, which also give good surface agitation. This gives the tank a lot of cross current a randomness that I see on the reef.

    Marine fish love strong turbulence. We can't fit enough power heads in our tank to simulate their true environment.

    Couldn't agree more. Add as much flow as your coral stays open and healthy in. The fish will love it.

    I have more flow in my 30 gallon tank than you have in yours and my fish still love to jump in the current and see where it gets them:)

    i agree, my fish cant get enough of my powerheads. swim towards it, let it launch them across the tank etc... i dont think i would have them face eachother though. you should bounce them of the glass and rocks to create a more random current.

    I tried the top corner bottom corner idea which sounded brilliant for the application, unfortunately it was too much current for my Xenias that are at the top of my reef. I think I will have the two in the front, one low and the other high, one pointing to the glass and the other slightly towards the reef and getting a small jet for the rear of the reef to pick up any detritus. That should tackle all the ideas presented in this thread.

    Thank you!

    I've got 2 Koralia 3s on my 72 Bow and it's borderline too much for my softies and LPS's. Might be fine for SPS though. Here's my setup.
