Well I got the sump and skimmer in last night, only issue is it's noisy  ....mainly with lots of water noise in inlet hose to the sump- it was gurgling so I closed the ball valve a little and it helped but still noisy, is it the 90 degree fitting that would be adding noise?
The pump and skimmer is pretty quiet, a little vibration noise- I have the return pump sitting on the glass bottom and the skimmer is on some eggcrate which is also on the glass bottom, do you guys put anything under the pumps and/or skimmers to help quiet vibration noise?

Here is a tank shot, still not cleared up from messing around- I also re-aquascaped to give it a larger arc look and hopefully a little more swimming room and feeling of depth. Heater will go in the sump, still have to clean up my mess of tv/dvd wires :D

This is the return line, it has a hole in the 90 degree fitting which I'm sure is an anti siphon, but it makes an annoying trickle sound lol- I guess I will have to put something under it to help quiet it a bit.

The elbow could be causing the problem, have the water exit below the water line it the sump this should help a lot. You could put a mouse pad underneath the equipment to help quiet the vibration.

Thanks for the suggestions, I did try and put the outlet under water but got lots of blurp blurp blurps from the air, we did play around with different fittings and have it flowing much quieter now, I also put some foam/sponge near the skimmer outlet to quiet the skimmer noise. I do need to get some pads or silicone to put the pump and skimmer on- my only worry on the mousepads is I will pick the one made in china that used a toxic glue or chemical in it lol.
Current readings are ammonia 2ppm, nitrite off the chart, and nitrate 20 ppm- it's been about 3 1/2 weeks since raw shrimp was dropped in.

    A few more pics :D

Rocks on the right have yet to be put somewhere, you can see how my pumps have done a bit of sandscaping (laugh) Each rock column has an acrylic rod through it and is drilled and glued into a base acrylic sheet sitting on the glass bottom, I also have zip tied the 2 middle rocks together.

I need to neaten the cords a bit, but still have to situate the gfo and carbon pump in the return area-

Yay ammonia and nitrite zero now :) My nitrates are at 10- so I guess small water change? I don't have a lot of algae in the tank, most of the algae is in the sump and it's not too terribly bad either, so should I just get a small cuc, I'm afraid they won't have a ton of stuff to eat-

Congrats on the cycle finishing. A small water change would be good as well as adding a CUC. You can also add hardy coral and fish.

should I kick on gfo and carbon or wait? Will the cuc need supplemental food or can they work off just the leftover fish food?
Lol @steph, don't do that to me! My mom's cat actually but either way glad it's ok!
