I've had a FOWLR tank for years, but I always wanted a reef tank. About 3 yrs ago I started the research and ~2 yrs ago I setup my first reef tank, learned a lot in the process. I think I did it right, to date I never lost anything (other than maybe a few snails/hermits). My tank is doing well, but I'm just bored with it now. I have a busy schedule and it's down in my basement, most times I just go down there for a few mins to feed the fish. I use to be so pumped about the tank, now some days I feel like getting rid of it, any of you guys experienced this?

I think it is natural when you reach your goal and find you have no others to set.

I think its time to set up a new project. Perhaps a bigger tank?

new coral? new fish?. or remodeling the tank. Like for example making it an SPS only tank or LPS only tank. New projects and new goals. That always helps me when i get bored of my tank.

it happens to everyone. Once you reach the point where you arent doing new stuff to the tank like buying and fixing.

I agree with this. You need to move the tank from out of the basement.

I think you guys are right, the tank being in the basement was probably not the best idea. I have it built into the wall as the back-splash for my bar. when I did the basement I thought I'd spend a lot more time down there, now we pretty much just use it for family parties.

We don't plan on living here much longer, if I setup a tank in our next house it would definitely be upstairs (maybe with the sump in the basement). We have a 4yr old son, he's at that age where he just want to hang out with me all the time, the little time I have after work if I waste any of it on the tank I usually feel bad, feels like I'm taking time away from him and my wife.

I have mine in my basement, but I'm down there all the time. I occasionally feel the way you do. Right now, my tank is kind of on autopilot. I'm gotten more busy with work and what not, so right now I just feed, dose and do weekly water changes. I look it as an opportunity for my coral to grow. It has saved me money from not buying things for it, although that is one of the more interesting parts of this hobby. I wish you the best of luck with it and perhaps you do need to start a new tank at some point.

I got the same bug but then I bought some new equipment and have decided to go to a SPS tank. Now I am back in the game doing research and looking forward to having a new game plan.
