Just purchased one of these units, under 30.00 at Home Depot.
Surprised to find it only cost me approx. 61 cents a day in electricity.
    Break down as follows...

Rio 2100 return pump and the 1200 maxi-jet (for skimmer) cost 13 cents a day..24 hours.
    Korilla #4 , #2 and another #2 is 8 cents a day..24 hours.
12 LED moon lights, less than 2 cents a day...12 hours a day
    4, T5HO, 1 cent an hour, Times 12 hours.
6, T5HO lights plus 4 inch hood fan, 4 cents an hour, times 5 hours.
fuge light and heater 1 cent a day.
This based on an average kwh charge of 14 cents.
Less than 20.00 a month..I'm cool with that.

Can you post a pic of that in your first post? I'd like to highlight this and hear more about it if possible.

Generator guys like them too. These kill-a-watt meters show frequency, voltage, power factor, watts and amps. All for about $30, not too shabby.

Your cost to run the aquarium is very good. What size tank do you have? Have you noticed the temperature in that room to be higher than the rest of the house?

I have used a Kill A Watt for years. Its one of the things that led me to use Eheim and Ocean Runner pumps after testing every pump I could beg, borrow or steal from my buddies. Many are power hogs and the Kill A Watt doesn't lie. It als oamazed me how much different many ballast power requirements are, some are very efficient and others suck the juice.
I got mine at Frys Electronics for like $15 on sale.

Rick, 90 gallon with approx 25 gallon fuge/sump. the room its in is the Man Cave...Converted my garage to a room...in the winter its about the same as the house...in the summer I have to run an AC in this room occasionally....but, its not to noticeably hotter or colder in this room.
