Why are my Kenya tree frag & frog spawn growing so slowly ? It is not the water perameters. I have tested those. My water temperature is 78, as was suggested by another member. They are not dying. They're just not growing. The frag came attatched to something that looks like a small sea shell. The spawn to something that looks like a white piece of bone.

Just an interesting side track. I boke off my mushroom by mistake. While trying to fix it, I pushed it way back under the live rock. It is back out & growing nicely.

If the mushroom is doing so well, why not the others ?

different corals are different in there requirements and growth.

have you tried feeding the frogspawn and tree?

with what? fertilize has really no meaning in the coral world(atleast to me) except in a reproductive sense.

well the frogspawn would like small meaty foods like brineshrimp. I don't know if reef plus has phyto in it, but the kenya would probably like that.

I used to ask myself the same question a couple of weeks ago, and besides adding a little microvert once a week I wasn't really doing anything for my frogspawn, yielding the same results... very slow, unnoticeable growth.

I moved it to a pretty low flow area and started feeding brine to it. I found out that even turning off my power heads, the flow coming from the return was enough to take the food away and into the water column.

reefmonkey suggested me to cut the top part of a 2 litter soda bottle, kind of like a bell with an open top, being the part where the cap goes the open top. I started putting that over it and squirting the brine this way. Without flow, the frogspawn catches all the brine and eats it super slowly without problem. I feed it 2 times per week and I've noticed in this 2 weeks that it has puffed up quite a bit more than what it used to and it looks 100% better. Give that a try! The slower flow seemed to be key in the development of mine. Try this as well.

EDIT: When you feed phyto or microvert to your other corals, turn your skimmer off for 3 to 4 hours, if you have one. I leave mine off overnight or else it pulls all that food right out of the water.

Wow ! Thanks for all the information ! I have been fertilizing with Liquid Reef, but I also have Kent. I'll get some shrimp into the tank right away.

As for the skimmer, I'll show my ignorance. My unit comes all as one. I gave a cannister filter attached to the back of the tank & a skimmer attached to that, that supplies some surface action.

I'm already using the pop bottle method. It probably wouldn't hurt to use it with my tree frag, button coral & mushroom, eh ? ( can you tell I am from Cannada, "eh ". ( LOL )

Also, when I do a water change, I dig deep into the " gravel" substrate. I know. It should be sand. I have lots of snails cleaning the surface & @ least one nassarius that can borrow into the substrate. Should I do my water change & just clean the surface of the substrate ? Did I tell you how much I love this site ! So much information for those of us who are relatively new to the hobby.
    THANKS EVERYONE !
