So I am in the process of building my reef tank, and obviously angelfish are out. But I do really like 2 tangs -- the naso and achilles. I know that they are both reef safe and non-aggressive, but will they be happy together?

I would get juvenile fish, and plan on upgrading to a 120+ gallon tank in about a year and a half.

    I am also planning on:

    2 clowns
    1 sixline wrasse
1 goby (either goldenhead or diamond)
    1 mandarin dragonette
    some shrimp, crabs, reef lobsters

So, the tangs would be the only large fish in the tank
    Thanks!!

Yikes, I wouldn't put either of those in a 120 for life. I would look more into yellow's, kole's, mimics, scopas, convicts, or powder brown's for that size tank (120). Start with 1 juvenile in the 55, and after you upgrade to the 120, look for a second and maybe even a third if its a 6' tank.

six line wrasse will go at your pod population which is what you would need eventually to keep a mandarin.. six line wrasse usually will happily accept prepared foods and having a six line wrasse will keep your pod population down.. mandarins are REALLY hard to keep.. i'm having a hard time keeping a mandarin in a 75G with 130 pounds of liverock and weekly chaeto shakes from my refugium weekly.. i've given up for now.. tangs to go in a 55? a lot of people seem to over exaggerate the fact that you can't keep tangs in a 55G tank.. in my opinion, you can keep a tang about 2-3" max, and i would look into a yellow tang, blue tang, kole tangs as the tangs you are able to keep.. you can even do 2 clownfish and 2 baby to juvenile tangs and you should be fine depending on how much live rock you have and how much swimming room they have to swim.. again that's my 2 cents, and i'm sure some people will disagree
