ok sorry to be such a downer but im making this thread to ask the question do i keep on going or quit. first some back ground ive been in aquariums my whole life from 3-10 freshwater then 14- 19 now saltwater. ok so it seems god hates me this week since i had 7 midterms and my tank has been going downhill very fast. now it is my fault this all happened. first i adjusted the skimmer bubble level by 1/4 inch and some how dont ask me why but it emptied about 6 gallons on the floor causing my ato to kick in which feeds a kalkreactor. but before that i was having trouble with keeping the kalkwasser mixed and decided to keep the reactor going 24/7 3 days prior to this . so i has 6 gals of pure kalk go into a 40 breeder which was filled with about 7K in sps corals. so that night of the accident i adjusted the skimmer and left to help out a friends at his lfs and after that i had dinner with my gf's family so im thinking about a hour after i left so about 2pm til 9 pm this horrible thing happened. so with this event ive lot alot including some fish from stress and now have just rock and fish. so after this i felt like this was just a way for me to get some new corals and keep going but then that next night my clown tanks had a major event also a flippin turbo that ive had in those tanks for atleast 2 years decided to piss me off and go down the over flow yet again causing 20 gals to hit the floor and i lost some of my pairs and now most of them are as freaked out as ive ever seen them. so with this all happening ive been up about 35 hours strait and dont think i can decide on little or no sleep so im asking you do i keep going and start over or sell everything?

Their was another thread a couple weeks ago. A fellow reefer was also contimplating giving up the hobby!
Basically, you have to make the decision, whether to go on or NOT! Is your heart still in it? Is it still fun for you or is it becomming a hastle and a chore, much like cutting the lawn?
You have to be focused with a reef/saltwater tank...as I am sure you are aware of by now! It isn't fair to you or your livestock if your "head isn't in the game"! You will be sacrificing time necessary for the health and success of your livestock and also take away from things more important to you if this isn't right for you anymore...or atleast at this point in time.
As you are aware, a saltwater tank can be a very rewarding, beautiful and enjoyable hobby...but it does require time and effort be dedicated to it for the success that we all desire...It isn't for everyone-
That being said, based on the problems you reitterated, maybe it is time to step back and reflect, so to speak on the problems and symptoms leading up to the problems, and maybe break it down and start over from scratch, or back up a bit and try to recapture what you once had before the problems started.
Try a water change first of all, test your water parameters, cycle your tank again possibly for piece of mind that ammonia, nitrites and nitrates have taken their course-and start again slowly. Developing and increasing confidence will assist you in the success of your tank if you do wish to pursue it further.
I personally, wouldn't quit and give up, but would strive to create the tank which got you started in the hobby in the first place!
But this is just me speaking...but hopefully I could sway you one way or the other, with no second thoughts!
Best of luck which ever road you choose...let us know the end result!

well ive been doing sps for 5 years i know what it takes and have been doing it that same way every since i started so i know what it takes but over that 5 year period of growth and beauty is lost trust me im a freak with with tank im always on the ball for everything so i spent hours and hours with trying to save it i did 10 water changes over the 3 days every 2-3 hours and all my levels all are back in to check after the first day so i was able to save about 4 or 5 colonies but not the total of 15. all levels are fine

    current

    sg 1.025
    temp 78 constant
    am 0
    NO2 0
    No3 0
    ph 8.2
    PO4 0
    CAl 420-430
    KH 9
everything checks out and has now been constant after 18 hours after i found out what happened. i just cant believe that i lost everything to 1/4 inch bubble line on my skimmer i just dont get it.

BTW after the event levels were

    sg 1.022
    temp 78 constant
    am 8
    NO2 3
    No3 0
    ph 8.8-9
    PO4 0
    CAl 580
    KH 4

    and before this happened

    sg 1.025
    temp 78 constant
    am 0
    NO2 0
    No3 0
    ph 8.2
    PO4 0
    CAl 420-430
    KH 10

this event make me want to just give up.

sg was added .001 every 12 hours
kh increased slowly through water changes along with cal dropping
    all water was rodi
all dead material removed 1 hour after event
dead fish removed 4 hours after event
carbon added 2 gallons 2 hours after event
water flow return changed from 300 to 700 to speed up water clarity
new filter soak 10 minutes after event

i dont think i could have done it better what do you think?
