Just pondering

So I have a spare 10 gal sitting around the house and wanted to do something with it, actually my gf has been bugging me to do something with it also. I was watching Colin's Coral Morphologic videos, if you haven't seen them then you are seriously missing out, and came across one that inspired me. I was thinking an all ric/St. Thomas tank would be cool. Here's the video,

Anyway, this would mean a new light fixture also. I was thinking since it would just be shrooms and most likely a shrimp, I wouldn't need a lot of light. I found a 2x24W Current Nova fixture for $67 and was thinking that would do the trick, what do you guys think? As far as the rest of the setup goes, I was hoping to keep this simple and just do a HOB filter and I have a extra K1 that I would put in there also. Do you guys think this would be a good/simple setup?

I think this would be a fairly straight forward setup. The HOB filter, K1 and lighting seem good to me. I am sure others will chime in with some other ideas.

Might need a heater and some surface aggitation. You will get some from the HOB filter though. Let us know what you decide to do.

 

Yeah, the heater is kind of a given. I was going to use the K1 as another source of surface agitation and get a HOB filter that was rated for probably 30gal or so, that way it's puts out some flow in a 10.

Oh, it will be a little bit before I set this one up. Come the beginning of Oct. I'll be building a custom fuge for my 29gal. After that's up and running then I'll look into starting this one. My gf just keeps asking me what I'm going to do with the empty tank in my closet and how much it's going to cost to get it going. Now I have something to tell her. Plus she'll be happy as she was thinking it would be around $250 but since I found this fixture, it will only be about $150.

 

Sounds good, the shrooms are low light corals

 

That's why I was thinking that the 2 bulb fixture would be enough.
