    its a asterina star they are harmless algea eaters, probily just a hich hicker

    cool..my tank is 5 weeks old so all i have in there is a peppermint shrimp and live rock...so this is a pleasant surprise.

    There many different types of asternia. Ones commonly found in most systems are harmless algae eaters.

    There are also those types that eat zoanthids, corals and coralline algae.

    It's almost impossible to tell one type from another based on coloration. They can reproduce quickly in some aquariums by means of lateral fission, which makes relying on number of arms for identification is not accurate.

    I have had types that eat film algae, types that eat zoanthids and one that consumed coralline algae. In the past I have only removed them if I witnessed them eating a coral.
