That reading is hard to believe,I would check to see if the probe is postioned correctly if it's an inline meter,or if some sort of debris is caught in it.

May need to flush a few gallons through the system and check again. If that's accurate something is wrong at the source.

What system did you buy and where are the probes positioned. On most all RO/DI systems with dual inline TDS meters the probes are post RO and post DI so you are not readig the tap water TDS. Something sounds a little fishy.

http://www.aquacave.com/detail.aspx?ID=680 its a inline tds meter and the unit is new i left it run for the 15 minutes like it said to do. than looked at the readings. i will look again next time i use it. it sounds really high. but this could be why i get sick feeling when i drink my tap water without it being filtered
it has a in and out reading. the in meter probe is right were the water comes in and the out is before it goes threw the di. not sure why its set up that way? i might look into getting a hand held tds meter. if they arent to much money.

ya my township water supply... looks like they are sleeping on the job ...lol

seriously i haven't a clue when it comes to ro/di. last tank i just used filtered water the dual filter system that was under my sink. but with the kitchen remodel that was removed and the fridge has its own filter for water.
using the dual filter system on the last tank all seemed to do well. but this tank im trying to do it right. and not cut corners. and i knew i didnt want to be hauling water so figured i better get the ro/di unit.

i have to say boy is that water slow! i used the waste water to water plants. :)

The TDS meter is installed incorrectly. You want to measure the RO only TDS and final RO/DI TDS. While the tap water TDS is a good thing to know it by itself does not tell you when you need to replace the RO membrane or the DI resin/cartridge. By reading the RO only TDS you know when it starts to rise and stay that way its time for a new RO membrane. The same with the OUT probe after the DI, you know when it starts showing anything other than 0 TDS consistently its time for new DI resin.

Hopefully with tap water like yours you have a water softener? It will not only protect your plumbing it will make your RO system last much longer and function more efficiently.

Do you have a copy of your water utilities Consumer Confidence or Annual Water Quality report? You need to get your hands on a copy, all water providers have to supply each customer with a copy every year and its good information to have.

My TDS can get as high as 1200 here in Phoenix so yours is not unheard of but its not common either, 250 or so is the national average.

Most Utilities have them online but you can request a printed copy too. You should receive a mailed copy once a year, probably as an insert in your utility bill.
