Not a stupid question at all. It allows water to flow everywhere to hopefully eliminate dead spots in the flow and keep hydrogen sulfate from forming as easily. It also allows more of your rock to be colonized for the nitrogen cycle.

Ahh, more surface area for colonization, less dead spots for current, not to mention some modern architecture. lol thanks.
BTW Great build . I currently work for a custom framer and do a lot of cutting glass. Its been making me think about trying to build a fuge type system just to see if i can. im curious as to how think the glass is you used for your ..."baffles" i believe the word was, the dividers.

I used 1/4" acrylic and had it cut to size then used silicone adhesive to hold them in place. All is working well with the sump. If you get glass buy double strength. and use 1/4" for safety.

Whoa I've missed alot. The tanks looking awesome! I like the pvc support but I can see where a larger diameter would be a benefit when youre using a shallower bed.

Thanks, lost the clam most likely from when I stirred up the gravel in the old tank, it succumbed yesterday. I am going to complete laying the pvc on their sides like on the left side of the tank tomorrow it is even more stable that way, plus it creates a lot of bolt holes for firefish. I intend to add an orange firefish as my next fish. I will replace the clam too sometime later. The light fixture is using all 6 bulbs now and I am seeing more intense coloring on the corals that have recovered from the reduced light period at the change over. Some are still coloring back up so I am getting happier by the day.

Yeah it is the color doesn't look as good without a camera though as it is pretty small. But it is looking better by the day.
