Hi everybody. I recently bought a jewel linkia starfish from a repitable lfs. Since i got him, 5 days now, he basically curls his legs up like a ball and just sits there. Not really moving at all. Now he has his legs out regular but theres this orange stuff excreeting from the top of him. Is this just waste or whats going on with him. I know stars are the most sensitive invert. But tank parameters are all sopt on. Any ideas? All other fish and inverts and corals doin well. Tank is 2 years old......

A little clearer pic might help, but from what I see, it appears it may have been attacked. Exactly what types of fish, shrimp, and crabs do you have?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I would seek a refund if this a reputable store.

Your tank may be just fine but the starfish could have gone a long time under less favorable conditions and lack of proper nourishment.

As Mr.Bill stated the images could be better but from what I can see and your description the starfish appears to be in very poor health.

Agreed...it looks to me like the starfish is decomposing, which is typical.

Linkia stars especially are one of the species that really tend not to do well in captivity. In fact, most sea stars don't do very well in aquaria.

this is the 'norm' for Linkia Stars, sometimes they last a couple months
