    I feel like I'm only here because I have problems or to post on how great other people's tanks look haha, why can't I have the nice tank!!! Ok so heres the deal, I'm pulling my hair out and can't think of what is wrong. So branching hammer coral was one of my first things in my tank and at the moment its not happy and I do not know why, neither is new zoas/polyps that I got.
    Temp-78
    Dkh= 10
    Ph-8.2
    Nitrates, Nitrites, Ammonia = 0
    Salinity= 1.022 ( I use crappy swing arm but its pretty consistent, but I'm trying to raise this to around 1.025 (I think this is where problem lies but I also have kenya tree, galaxia, and a shroom that are doing well)
    Calcium=380 (little low but would that do it?)
    PC lights- 2 36 watt 50/50 (24 gallon tank)
    I had them in the middle of the tank now I tried moving the hammer to the topish to get more light.
    Someone please help!!! (first pic is how it use to look)

    Heres the steps that I already took;
    Replaced carbon
    Gave the two corals iodine dip to make sure it wasn't worms or nudibranches
    Removed a leather coral I had in there to make sure it wasn't chemical warfare because the tanks only 24 gallons.
    In the last week did a 30% change before and after removing the leather
    I also was using marine snow that was not looking good so I discontinued that and switched to another brand (kent i believe) and am feed mysis shrimp and flakes

    do you know what your phosphates are? I personally dont think there is anything here, sometimes corals just close up for the sake of it.

    Do you know any local with a refractometer?

    Try getting the SG to around 1.025 and see what that does. I bet that is the issue.

    I would also stop dosing phyto. You have nothing in there that will eat it anyways.

    +1 On the SG, at least 1.023. I would raise it slowly too. most corals dont like drastic changes in salinity.... good luck

    Get the SG to 1.025 and get a refractometer for about $40. You only need phyto if you have clams or some filter feeding animal. You do not have enough light. Even for that little tank you upgrade your lighting. Do you have a protein skimmer? Also doing a 30% water change before and another after is too big a water change for your size tank. Do you use a canister filter? That would cause nitrate or phosphate issues if not cleaned all the time.

    I wonder about the flow, my frogspawn closes and the polyps close too if I have them in too much flow. I try for a nice flowing movement to the frogspawn (or a hammer) so it looks like a gentle constant breeze going on and not a wind blowing around with occasional whips. Just another option. Also, I find they close when I top off RO, and I even do that in the sump, so I think sometimes they just decide to close up for a bit.

    I started using phosguard by seachem and it did wonders for my algae so I never got a test I guess I'll invest in that, and I planned on getting a refractometer this weekend. I have a feather duster in there so thats why I was dosing the phyto, do I not need too? And no canister filter its a nano so I got the three compartments in the back, one with the sponge, and one with carbon, and then the return. And I clean the sponge about once a week.
