I am planning a 150 gal. reef and am wondering if an 8 way oceans motions would be overkill for a 150 gallon aquarium.:)

I have no idea what Oceans Motions is nor have I heard of the name, however, my guess is that you are talking about water flow.
Water flow is a very important variable to consider in the overall scheme of your tank with regards to its inhabitants, algae growth, diffusion and advection.

You can really never have too much water flow, however, be careful with where you place corals and clams especially, as they require varying degrees of water flow!
Think about what kind of livestock you plan on keeping so that proper placement can be achieved with regards to lighting and water flow especially!

Jason has a 370 and I have a 265 that we both run 4-ways on. If you set it up right an 8 way will work but I think it is over kill on a 150g. You dont want two ports fight at each other, you just want them to move the water back and forth. Check out some of the set-ups and then draw your plans out before you buy. Talk to Paul at OM, he is very helpful.
