I actually have two of these on the piece of rock that I purchased (full of tiny feather dusters). I think they call it a cluster.

Anyways, is this actually an anemone? I haven't fed it anything since i've had it (about 3 weeks), and it seems to have grown.

Thanks in advance, I've looked all around, and can't find any picture that looks similar.

it could be a variety of anemone but it also could be a type of discosoma (fuzzy mushroom). what does the mouth look like and does the animal retract or change shape tremendously if irritated....

That is not a mushroom of amy sort. It as a large Mojano anemone.....very attractive and spread like wildfire. They are much easier to remove than glass anemones. I see lots of them on LR shipments, they even used to sell them at one point....way back when.

I would remove that sucker ASAP before it starts splitting and spreading.

Thank you all for the quick responses.

Yes, they do retract every once in a while, and when it comes back - they're especially neon green color. It really does seem like a shame to get rid of it, I actually thought it was pretty neat. In fact, I chose this piece of rock thinking it had 'great life' growing on it (shame on me).

The previous pics were from a couple weeks ago. Here are a couple more showing how much it has grown. Just before I 'nuke' it, can I get a re-confirmation that these are Mojano Anemones?

    Thanks.

    Thanks again for the confirmation.

In my disappointment to nuke these, I went and got myself something that looked even better.

Unfortunately, after I brought it home, I learnt that it isn't as hardy as it used to be. I believe it is an Elegance Coral. I guess this is my problem with buying things in Hong Kong... I have no clue what the names are in Chinese... I guess the good side, is that it everything is dirt cheap... and only cost me HK$160 (roughly $20USD).

I'll see how long it lasts me... :-[
